Ecuador Study Analyzes Crime Trends in Guayas, Pichincha and Manabí

A master's thesis from the Universidad Internacional del Ecuador (UIDE) examined spatial‑temporal patterns of robbery, homicide, violence and other crimes in the provinces of Guayas, Pichincha and Manabí. Using statistical models, machine‑learning algorithms and deep‑learning techniques, the research covered the period from January 2022 to December 2025. The analysis aimed to generate actionable information for public‑security decision‑making and to aid the planning of security policies in Ecuador.

The study found an overall increase in criminal activity over recent years and highlighted regional differences, with each province exhibiting distinct trends. The authors suggest that the predictive models can support authorities in allocating resources and designing targeted interventions to improve citizen safety.
