Cachoeira dos Dragões waterfalls dry up in Pirenópolis

The Cachoeira dos Dragões waterfall complex in Pirenópolis, Goiás, has experienced significant water reduction due to drought and environmental degradation. Visitors reported finding several of the eight waterfalls in the complex completely dry or with severely diminished flow.

Experts attribute the situation to the seasonal dry period in the Brazilian Midwest, compounded by the loss of riparian forests and natural vegetation. This degradation has impacted local microclimates and river dynamics. While some of the drying is considered a natural seasonal phenomenon, local observers note that temporary droughts in the area have become more noticeable since the 2000s.
