Washington Nationals extend Cade Cavalli with 4-year, $47 million deal

The Washington Nationals have agreed to a four-year contract extension with right-handed pitcher Cade Cavalli. The deal is worth $47 million guaranteed from 2027 through 2030 and includes a club option for the 2031 season, which could increase the total value to $70 million.

Cavalli, 28, is experiencing a breakout season following previous struggles with arm injuries, including Tommy John surgery in 2023. This season, he has posted a 12-5 record with a 3.12 ERA and 194 strikeouts. During a recent game against the St. Louis Cardinals, Cavalli recorded his 200th strikeout of the year.

Nationals leadership, including General Manager Paul Toboni, expressed strong confidence in Cavalli as a foundational piece of the team's rotation. The extension follows a period of high performance from Cavalli, who has become a key figure in the team's pitching staff.
