Jacob deGrom reaches 2,000 career strikeouts
Texas Rangers pitcher Jacob deGrom reached a major career milestone on Thursday, becoming the second-fastest pitcher in MLB history to record 2,000 strikeouts. He achieved the mark in his 272nd career game, trailing only Hall of Famer Randy Johnson in terms of games played, and behind Chris Sale in terms of innings pitched.
During the game against the Washington Nationals, deGrom delivered a dominant performance, pitching six shutout innings with ten strikeouts and allowing only one hit. This performance followed a period of recovery from right triceps fatigue that had limited his previous outing.
In a separate matchup earlier in the series, Washington Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli led his team to a 6-0 shutout victory over the Rangers. Cavalli recorded 11 strikeouts over six innings, continuing a strong stretch where he has maintained a low ERA and high strikeout rate.
