CADE records highest volume of concentration acts in first half of 2026

Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) analyzed 423 concentration acts between January and June 2026, marking its highest volume for a first semester, a 12.8% increase compared to 2025.

This surge supports discussions by the Ministry of Finance regarding increasing the revenue thresholds for mandatory notifications. The current limits of R$ 750 million and R$ 75 million could rise to R$ 2 billion and R$ 200 million, respectively, to account for inflation. While experts suggest this could reduce bureaucracy for low-risk operations, former CADE president Gustavo Augusto Freitas de Lima warned that such an increase might "esvaziar o trabalho do Cade e prejudicar o bem-estar dos consumidores" (empty CADE's work and harm consumer welfare).
