Caerphilly County Borough to Host Tour de France Stage and Reopen Newbridge Pool

The Newbridge Leisure Centre swimming pool in Caerphilly County Borough reopened on 24 July after a five‑week refurbishment that included pool‑side retiling, upgraded women’s changing rooms and temporary boilers. Council cabinet member for leisure Cllr Chris Morgan said the works will improve long‑term reliability and the customer experience. Swimming lessons resume on 28 July and permanent upgrades such as new lockers and permanent boilers are scheduled for the coming weeks.

Caerphilly Council announced it will spend £200,000 from a budget underspend to support the Tour de France grand‑départ in 2027, when a 233 km stage will pass through the borough on 4 July. Organisers project ten million visitors for the three UK stages, with about 1.23 million expected in Caerphilly. Council leaders highlighted the expected boost to local hospitality businesses and long‑lasting economic legacy, describing the race as a “massive showcase” for the area.
