Caerphilly padel business proposed as Australian tax changes loom
In Caerphilly, the WCR Group has submitted a planning application for a new padel court business at Caerphilly Business Park. The proposed development would feature a mix of indoor singles and doubles courts. Proponents argue the facility would complement the nearby £38 million Caerphilly Leisure and Wellbeing Hub currently under construction, expanding local activity options. A market report by Savills suggests that sufficient alternative office space remains available in the area to accommodate the shift from office to leisure use.
In Australia, upcoming changes to capital gains tax (CGT) laws are set to impact asset transfers. Starting July 1, 2027, the effective disappearance of rollover relief means tax may be triggered even if an asset has not been sold. This change could force the sale of assets, such as family homes or share portfolios, to cover tax liabilities in deceased estates, as the protection that previously allowed tax to be deferred until a sale is largely removed for assets acquired before the deadline.
