Caetano Veloso marks 84th birthday with concert tribute in Salvador

Brazilian singer‑songwriter Caetano Veloso turned 84 on Friday. The following day a special concert was held at the Museum of Modern Art of Bahia (MAM) in Salvador, part of the 27th edition of the JAM no MAM series. The band Geleia Solar performed instrumental reinterpretations of Veloso’s hits, blending jazz elements with new arrangements. Tickets ranged from R$5 to R$40 and were sold through Sympla.

Across social media, dozens of Brazilian artists and public figures posted birthday messages. Among them were his wife Paula Lavigne, fellow musicians Gilberto Gil, Maria Bethânia, João Vicente, Duda Beat, Iza, Emicida, Zeca Pagodinho, Djavan, Milton Nascimento, and TV presenter Luciano Huck. The tributes highlighted Veloso’s influence on Brazilian popular music since the 1960s tropicalist movement.
