Cafè Alzheimer seeks expanded support for dementia patients in Turin
The PerdutaMente group, representing families of individuals living with Alzheimer’s and dementia, recently presented their initiatives to a regional commission in Italy. The group highlighted the work of Cafè Alzheimer, a project designed to provide social interaction, music therapy, and community support to both patients and their caregivers.
Supported by funding from the Piedmont Region, the initiative has established a light day center in Turin, offering 18 hours of weekly activities, including shared meals and workshops. However, organizers expressed concerns regarding the difficulty of securing ongoing funding and donations to maintain professional services. They are calling for greater institutional recognition of Cafè Alzheimer, the expansion of these services across the Turin metropolitan area, and enhanced home care support.
