CAF approves new player registration rules and 2026–2030 calendar
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved significant regulatory changes for its interclub competitions, following an Executive Committee meeting chaired by Patrice Motsepe.
Key updates to player registration include allowing players to represent more than one club within the same season in CAF interclub competitions, effectively removing previous cup-tied restrictions. Additionally, the squad registration limit has been increased to a maximum of 40 players per club. Clubs are also permitted to replace up to four players during the final registration period, provided the incoming players have not participated in any CAF interclub matches during that specific season.
In terms of governance, disciplinary matters will now be handled exclusively by the CAF Disciplinary Committee rather than the Interclub Competitions Committee.
CAF also adopted its competition calendar for the 2026–2030 period. Upcoming major events include the CAF Awards 2026 in Lagos, Nigeria, on December 7, 2026, and the CAF Ordinary General Assembly in Nigeria on November 21, 2026. Other scheduled events include the CAF Strategic Conference in Sal, Cape Verde, and the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League finals in November.
