CAF Sets 2026 Club Draws and Awards Event in Nigeria

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will hold the preliminary‑round draws for the 2026/27 CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup on 6 August at its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. Nigerian clubs – Rangers International, Rivers United, Shooting Stars (3SC) and El‑Kanemi Warriors – will learn their first‑round opponents for the continental competitions.

A five‑member CAF delegation inspected venues in Abuja and Lagos that Nigeria has proposed to host the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2026 CAF Awards. Inspected sites included the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, which will host the awards ceremony.

In women's football, South Africa’s Banyana Banyana must beat Burkina Faso in their final group match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco to stay in the title‑defence. Meanwhile, the COSAFA Women’s Champions League qualifiers saw Gaborone United Ladies drawn into a tough Group A in Botswana and Silver Strikers Ladies placed in Group B alongside Mamelodi Sundowns, Nsingizini Hotspurs and Costa do Sol.
