Café owner detained after sand‑throwing incident on Mersin beach

In the Silifke district of Mersin, Turkey, a dispute between three young beach‑goers (ages 19, 21 and 22) and a café partner, identified as K. K. (26), escalated when K. K. attempted to force the youths off the sand and threw sand at them with a shovel. The incident was recorded on a mobile phone and circulated on social media.

Following the video’s release, the Silifke Public Prosecutor’s Office opened an investigation. Joint gendarmerie units arrested K. K. and his accomplice, identified as F. S. (24), at the café they operated. Both were charged with deprivation of liberty and making threats.
