Café Simi plans international expansion into US and Chile

Víctor González Herrera, CEO of Farmacias Similares, has announced plans to expand the Café Simi coffee chain internationally, targeting markets such as the United States, Chile, and Colombia. Unlike the pharmaceutical side of the business, which faces regulatory hurdles like FDA approval in the U.S., the coffee business is viewed as having much higher potential for rapid global expansion.

In Chile, the local subsidiary, Farmacias de Similares Chile S.A., has successfully secured exclusive rights to the Café Simi trademark through the National Institute of Industrial Property (Inapi). The registration, valid until 2036, covers services including cafes, restaurants, and the sale of food and beverages.

Café Simi originated from a mobile coffee unit at the Farmacias Similares corporate headquarters and has since expanded to three physical locations in Mexico: two in Mexico City and one in Playa del Carmen. The company intends to continue its domestic growth in the Yucatán and Quintana Roo regions while pursuing its international strategy.
