CAG and IIT Madras launch digital systems audit certification
The Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and IIT Madras have launched the Certification on Audit of Digital Systems (CADS), a specialized programme designed to build expertise in auditing complex digital government and enterprise systems. The initiative, delivered via SWAYAM Plus, aims to address the growing need for professionals capable of auditing digital public infrastructure, artificial intelligence, cloud platforms, and data-driven services.
Launched at the IIT Madras campus, the foundation-level certification is a four-month, fully online programme open to anyone holding or pursuing an undergraduate degree. The curriculum, jointly designed by experts from the CAG, IIT Madras, and IITM Pravartak, covers public audit, information technology, cybersecurity, information systems, digital public platforms and privacy, and artificial intelligence. Assessments will be conducted through in-person, proctored computer-based tests.
CAG K Sanjay Murthy stated that the ability to audit digital systems is essential to the department’s constitutional mandate and that the certification may eventually become a mandatory requirement for officers in this field. The programme is structured in three tiers, with proficient and expert-level certifications to follow the foundation level. While currently focused on domestic capacity, officials noted the programme could eventually be opened to global participants.
