Cagayan de Oro authorities recover mortar rounds and raid illegal mines

Authorities in the Cagayan de Oro region of the Philippines have addressed two separate security and environmental incidents.

In Cagayan de Oro City, police and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) personnel recovered two 81mm high-explosive mortar rounds from a residential area in Barangay Camaman-an. The explosives were discovered by a resident who reportedly found them while scavenging through garbage. No injuries or property damage were reported during the recovery process.

In Misamis Oriental, Task Force Kalikasan conducted an operation in Barangay Limonda, Opol, to shut down illegal mining sites that had been previously declared closed. The composite team, including provincial government officials, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, police, and Army personnel, seized equipment and extracted ore. The provincial government is currently attempting to combat unauthorized operations while encouraging small-scale miners to register through the 'Minahan ng Bayan' program.
