Cagayan police find no evidence of animal cruelty in viral puppy and python video

Police in Gattaran, Cagayan, have investigated allegations of animal cruelty following a viral video that appeared to show a puppy being fed to a python. The investigation was prompted by public outcry and calls from animal welfare advocates, such as the FurPaws Society, to enforce the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

Authorities located Rommel Martinez, the man in the video, and verified the condition of the puppy. Police confirmed the animal was alive and in good health, finding no evidence to substantiate claims of intentional harm or feeding.

Martinez stated that the python was already dead when he brought it home. He explained that the video was intended to demonstrate that the dead snake's body could still perform coiling movements when the puppy approached it. Martinez apologized for the confusion and concern caused by the social media post.
