Caicó enters state of alert over dengue risk

The municipality of Caicó is currently under a state of alert regarding dengue, following surveillance criteria established by the Ministry of Health. Municipal Health Secretary Gedson Santos clarified that the city is not experiencing an active outbreak, but is in a phase of preparation and intensified vigilance to prevent the spread of the disease.

Health officials noted that increased rainfall has led to the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti mosquito, raising transmission risks. Santos emphasized that there are no confirmed cases of hemorrhagic dengue in the municipality. To combat the risk, the city is implementing strategies such as the use of fogging machines (carro fumacê) and expanding vaccination efforts.

Authorities have issued an appeal to residents to allow endemic disease agents to enter their homes to identify and control potential breeding sites, noting that access to certain middle-class neighborhoods has been a challenge due to closed properties during visiting hours.
