Cainz and Matsuya Foods launch recycled compost made from food waste
Cainz and Matsuya Foods have launched a partnership to sell “Gyumeshiya-san Recycled Compost” at select Cainz home improvement stores. The product is made from food waste collected from Matsuya Foods' restaurants and factories, including scraps such as cabbage, lettuce, Chinese cabbage, and onion cores.
Matsuya Foods has been recycling food waste into compost for approximately 25 years, previously providing it primarily to contracted farmers. By making the compost available through Cainz, the companies aim to expand its use to agricultural professionals, home gardeners, and general consumers. The compost is enriched with ingredients such as pig manure, fulvic acid, oyster shells, and seaweed to improve soil health and crop growth. This initiative is part of both companies' efforts to promote resource circulation and reduce food loss.
