Cairngorms wildfire cordon may be lifted Friday, says Scottish Fire Service

A wildfire that broke out near Ryvoan Bothy close to Aviemore on July 15 has burned about 25 sq km of the Cairngorms National Park. More than 500 firefighters, four fire appliances and helicopter support have been deployed, with around 20 crew members still on the scene. Thermal‑imaging drones are being flown twice daily to locate hot spots in the difficult terrain.

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said the emergency cordon around the Glenmore area could be lifted on Friday, pending conditions and agreement among multi‑agency responders. Highland Council is consulting local businesses about reopening, while Forestry and Land Scotland and the Cairngorms National Park prepare a public‑access management plan for forest paths, bike trails and roads.
