Cairns Western Arterial Road duplication works begin
Early works have commenced on the duplication of the Cairns Western Arterial Road in Queensland. The project aims to expand the section between Lake Placid Road and Captain Cook Highway into a four-lane carriageway to improve traffic flow, safety, and capacity for the Cairns region.
Initial construction activities include the relocation of water and sewer infrastructure between the Barron River and Caravonica State School, as well as trenching, underboring, and minor earthworks. This project is noted as part of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Delivery Plan.
Tenders for major construction are expected to be issued in late 2026, with full-scale construction beginning once utility relocation is complete.
