Cairo 2026 African University Games preparations underway
Preparations are underway for the 12th African University Games, scheduled to be held in Cairo from September 8 to 16, 2026. The event is expected to host over 2,000 participants representing 82 universities and institutions from 18 African nations. The competition will feature 18 main sports, alongside the debut of Paralympic and exhibition sports.
To support the event, Nile Sport has secured exclusive broadcasting rights. The coverage will include live broadcasts of opening and closing ceremonies, various sporting competitions, and analytical studios, accessible via digital platforms. Additionally, an official mobile application has been launched to provide athletes, media, and the public with real-time information, venue guides, and cultural content regarding Egyptian heritage.
Delegations have already begun arriving in Cairo, including the Benin University of Parakou. The games are being organized through cooperation between the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the African University Sports Federation (FASU), and the Egyptian University Sports Federation.
