Cairo court adjourns trial for 15 May massacre suspect
A Cairo criminal court has adjourned the first trial session of an engineer accused of the ‘15 May massacre,’ in which he allegedly killed his daughter and three members of his ex-wife’s family. The defense has requested that the defendant undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine his mental state and legal responsibility at the time of the crime.
The prosecution's investigation revealed that the defendant orchestrated a meeting under the guise of settling family disputes. He reportedly arrived at the residence armed with a firearm and ammunition, which he claimed to have purchased via the Dark Web. According to witness testimonies and audio recordings, the defendant opened fire on the victims, resulting in four deaths and one injury.
The defendant has confessed to the killings and the attempted murder of his son. Forensic reports and surveillance footage have corroborated the prosecution's findings, including the use of the seized weapon in the killings. The court has scheduled the next hearing for November.
