Cairo court sentences ‘fake doctor’ to three years in prison

A Cairo criminal court has sentenced a man, known in the media as the ‘fake doctor,’ to three years in prison for impersonating a physician and forging academic credentials. The defendant, who had previously been expelled from the Faculty of Al-Alsun, opened a clinic in downtown Cairo and falsely claimed to be a lecturer in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at Ain Shams University.

Investigations revealed that between 2015 and 2022, the individual committed multiple acts of forgery involving official documents, including national ID cards. He used these forged credentials to support his false professional identity and promote himself as a medical specialist. The court's decision follows a retrial of a previous in-absentia sentence of ten years.
