Cairo hosts Union for the Mediterranean Economic Forum

The Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) held its Economic Forum in Cairo from October 19 to 22. The event brought together government officials, private-sector leaders, and development partners to discuss strengthening regional investment, expanding trade, and job creation across the Euro-Mediterranean region.

Organized in cooperation with the European Union and supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), the forum focused on improving business environments, enhancing economic competitiveness, and promoting sustainable, inclusive growth. Key attendees included European Union Ambassador to Egypt Angelina Eichhorst, German Ambassador Jürgen Schulz, and UfM Senior Deputy Secretary-General Mariam Diallo.

During the forum, UfM Acting Secretary-General Fadi Haj Ali met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to discuss regional developments and preparations for the upcoming 11th Regional Forum in Barcelona. UfM officials emphasized that regional economic integration requires investment not only in capital and projects but also in human capabilities, innovation, and production to build stable societies.
