Cairo implements tuk-tuk ban and car showroom relocation plan

Authorities in Cairo have implemented a regulatory ban on tuk-tuks in several vital corridors within the Dar Al Salam district. The ban targets five major routes: the Nile Corniche slow road, the Ring Road, the Misr-Helwan Agricultural Road, and the Fayoum Road. To enforce traffic discipline and improve flow, officials warned that any tuk-tuk found violating this order will be confiscated.

In a separate urban planning initiative, the Cairo Governorate is working to relocate car showrooms currently situated beneath residential buildings. This measure aims to reduce traffic congestion and prevent the unauthorized use of sidewalks and public spaces. Authorities have set a deadline of the end of 2027 for all such showrooms in Greater Cairo and provincial capitals to vacate residential areas.

The relocation plan includes a comprehensive census of both licensed and unlicensed showrooms, the identification of suitable alternative sites outside residential zones, and a freeze on issuing new operating licenses for showrooms located under residential buildings.
