Cairo International Airport expands capacity to meet rising passenger demand

Cairo International Airport is experiencing significant growth in passenger traffic, prompting the Egyptian government to initiate an expansion program. During August and September 2026, the airport handled over 6 million passengers across more than 42,000 flights, marking an increase compared to the same period in 2025.

To address rising demand and prevent capacity bottlenecks, the Ministry of Civil Aviation is working on the construction of a new Terminal 4. This terminal is designed to accommodate 40 million passengers annually. The broader strategic goal is to increase the total capacity of Cairo International Airport to approximately 70 million passengers per year, supporting Egypt's role as a major regional and international aviation hub.
