Cairo International Film Festival announces 47th edition details
The Cairo International Film Festival has announced details for its 47th edition, scheduled for November 11 to 20, 2026. This milestone edition celebrates the 50th anniversary of the festival's founding in 1976.
The official poster features the late actress Shadia as a central icon, surrounded by images of Egyptian cinema legends. The design utilizes artificial intelligence to bridge the gap between cinematic memory and modern restoration, a move festival president Hussein Fahmy stated aligns with updates from the Association Internationale des Festivals de Films (AFFIF).
Key honors for this edition include the Faten Hamama Excellence Award for actor Asser Yassin, and the Honorary Golden Pyramid for screenwriter Medhat El Adl, cinematographer Saeed Shimi, Italian director Matteo Garrone, and Mauritanian filmmaker Abderrahmane Sissako. Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch will preside over the international competition jury.
The festival's program includes 145 films from 64 countries. To expand accessibility, new venues such as Cinema El Tahrir and Cinema Zawya have been added to the official screening list. The festival also reaffirmed its ongoing support for the Palestinian cause through its artistic programming.
