Cairo University Geomatics students present nine applied research projects
Students from the Geomatics program at Cairo University's Faculty of Arts participated in a scientific competition featuring nine applied projects. The event was held at the National Authority for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (NARSS) as part of a field training program designed to bridge academic study with labor market needs.
The projects focused on practical applications in agriculture, environment, land management, natural resources, and urban planning. Students utilized advanced technologies including remote sensing, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud computing to produce data-driven solutions.
Top-ranking projects included a first-place entry focused on classifying agricultural crops using machine learning and Sentinel-1 satellite radar imagery, and a second-place project involving LiDAR data processing and 3D modeling using ArcGIS Pro and Leica Cyclone. Other recognized works addressed land cover changes in the Faiyum Governorate and the use of cloud computing in spatial analysis.
