Caitlin Clark calls on WNBA to define eligibility for transgender athletes

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark said the league and its governing bodies should decide who is eligible to compete in the WNBA after the team’s 108‑100 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. She noted that the newly signed collective bargaining agreement between the WNBA and the Women’s National Basketball Players Association states only “players who are women” may play, but the agreement does not define what constitutes a woman.

Clark added that the focus should remain on basketball while the league works with athletes to find a solution. The issue gained attention when teammate Sophie Cunningham’s comments about women not having to compete against biological men sparked controversy, with Riley Gaines and others publicly supporting Cunningham. The WNBA and the players’ association have not yet responded to requests for clarification on the eligibility standard.
