Caixa credits 13 billion reais FGTS profit to Brazil's workers

On Thursday, Caixa Econômica Federal began crediting 13.04 billion reais—the equivalent of 89% of the 2025 FGTS profit—directly into the accounts of about 138 million Brazilian workers. The profit, generated from the Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço’s investments, raises the annual yield on linked accounts to roughly 6.9%, above the 4.26% inflation rate recorded for the period.

Workers can view the credit through the FGTS mobile app or Caixa’s internet banking. The amount will be added to the balance of each eligible account and can be withdrawn under the conditions set by Law 8.036/90, such as termination without cause, the “anniversary withdrawal,” or retirement.

The exact distribution index will be set by the Conselho Curador do FGTS, which meets to decide the percentage of profit to be passed on. The crediting process is expected to be completed by 31 August 2026. Eligibility includes anyone with a positive FGTS balance as of 31 December 2025, whether the account is active or inactive.
