PP demands accountability from Morales over failed Gran Canaria urban plan

The People's Party (PP) has called for political accountability from Gran Canaria President Antonio Morales following a Supreme Court decision to reject an appeal by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. The court declined to review the annulment of the Island Territorial Planning (PIO), a key project intended to modernize the island's infrastructure and tourism sectors.

Miguel Jorge Blanco, the PP spokesperson, described the ruling as a major political blow and suggested that leadership within the presidency must resign. The PIO, which was finalized in December 2022, was considered a flagship project for Morales' administration. The legal conflict arose from the use of outdated urban planning legislation that had been largely superseded by the Canary Islands Land Law.
