CaixaBank CEO calls for increased housing construction in Spain

Gonzalo Gortázar, CEO of CaixaBank, has called for an acceleration in housing construction to address Spain's housing deficit, which he noted has become a national priority. During the presentation of the bank's results for the first nine months of 2026, Gortázar stated that while there is ample financing available for projects that meet necessary standards, there is insufficient construction to balance supply and demand, a factor driving prices upward.

Gortázar suggested that promoting industrialized construction and fostering public-private collaborations could help mitigate the shortage. He also supported demand-side measures, such as protecting vulnerable individuals and limiting tourist apartments.

Regarding financial performance, CaixaBank reported a net profit of 4.962 billion euros for the period, representing a 12.9% increase compared to the same period the previous year. The bank noted growth in its mortgage market share, with mortgage production growing by approximately 7% this year, outpacing the overall market growth of 5%.
