Caja de Seguro Social approaches pension system decision deadline
The Caja de Seguro Social (CSS) in Panama is approaching an August 18 deadline for insured individuals to decide whether to remain in the current pension system or transition to a new model. As of the latest reports, 168,000 formal decisions have been recorded, with 5,167 individuals having already opted to transfer to the new system.
CSS Director Dino Mon noted a significant increase in digital platform usage, which caused temporary server instability due to high traffic. To assist citizens, the CSS announced that administrative agencies will open on Saturday, August 15, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. nationwide to provide guidance on the ‘Mi Retiro Seguro’ tool and individual account projections.
Certain agencies, including those in Volcán, Puerto Armuelles, Boquete, Soná, La Villa, San Carlos, Panamá Pacífico, and Chepo, will remain closed during this special Saturday session. Under current law, those who do not make a formal decision by the deadline will automatically remain in the existing pension system.
