Caja Nacional de Salud manager faces investigation for illicit enrichment

Bolivian Vice President Edmand Lara has called for the dismissal and criminal investigation of Walter Germán Hoyos, the general manager of the Caja Nacional de Salud (CNS), following allegations of illicit enrichment. According to a criminal complaint, Hoyos reported only 1,063 bolivianos in his sworn asset declaration, yet his bank accounts reportedly exceed 7.3 million bolivianos.

In a parallel investigation, the Public Ministry has intervened in CNS offices to seize documents and computer equipment. This action targets potential irregularities in a procurement process for medical tomographs involving a private company. Prosecutors are examining whether contract modifications unfairly favored the provider, despite previous warnings from the entity’s legal and requesting units. The investigation aims to determine if these actions resulted in economic damage to the state.
