Caja Rural and Ibercaja implement Bizum Pay for mobile retail payments
Spanish financial institutions Caja Rural and Ibercaja are expanding the use of Bizum Pay, a digital wallet service that enables contactless mobile payments at physical retail locations using NFC technology.
Caja Rural has prepared over 11,000 merchants to accept the service, which allows customers to pay by tapping their mobile devices against payment terminals. Payments can be made using the balance in the linked bank account or a card integrated into the digital wallet. The service is available on iOS and Android, with plans to incorporate e-commerce payments and support for multiple languages in the near future.
Ibercaja is also implementing Bizum Pay, rolling out the service gradually to both individual customers and merchants. Once registered through the bank's application, users can complete transactions by bringing their phones close to enabled terminals, with funds being debited directly from their associated bank accounts.
