The Cundinamarca Secretary of Education has confirmed the definitive closure of Gimnasio Campestre Los Laureles Bilingüe in Cajicá. This decision follows the death of 10-year-old Valeria Afanador, a student with Down syndrome who was found dead in the Frío River after disappearing from the school premises on August 12, 2025.

Resolution 007360, issued on October 14, 2026, rejected the institution's appeal, citing failures and omissions in the duty of care and special protection. The cancellation of the school's operating license will take effect at the end of the 2026 academic year.

The school's rectorate is required to submit a student relocation plan by October 31, 2026. This plan must include individual characterizations of students, specific support for those with disabilities or special educational needs, and protocols to prevent stigmatization and cyberbullying during the transition.
