Cal-Maine Foods delivers eggs to Yuma food bank following price-fixing settlement

Cal-Maine Foods has delivered 183,600 eggs to the Yuma Community Food Bank as part of a settlement regarding an illegal egg price-fixing scheme. This marks the first delivery resulting from a bipartisan investigation involving the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and the U.S. Department of Justice.

The investigation revealed that between June 2022 and March 2025, Cal-Maine Foods, Versova/Centrum, and Hickman’s Egg Ranch coordinated to manipulate a daily egg price index. This activity artificially inflated prices for retailers and consumers across the country by influencing benchmark quotes used in supply contracts.

Under the terms of the settlement, the companies must donate more than 53 million eggs to food banks and nonprofits in participating states and pay a combined $3.3 million to those states. The companies have also agreed to end illegal coordination, implement compliance measures, and submit to state oversight. The eggs delivered to Yuma will be distributed to various food pantries and partner agencies throughout Yuma and La Paz Counties.
