Calabria advances local public transport reforms

Regional authorities in Calabria are advancing reforms to local public transport (TPL) to improve regional mobility and service efficiency. A proposed regional law aims to replace existing 2015 regulations, consolidating the organization, assignment, and control of services into a single governing body to align with European and national standards.

In a related development, regional councilor Mattiani (Lega) has proposed an amendment to extend fare reductions or exemptions to port workers at the Port of Gioia Tauro and other Calabrian ports. The amendment highlights the strategic importance of the Gioia Tauro port within regional and Mediterranean logistics systems.

Additionally, the Transport Commission is scheduled to meet on September 8 to review the reorganization of the regional network and the commencement of school transport services. The commission, led by President Francesca De Pascali, will prioritize ensuring reliable and barrier-free transport for students with disabilities to guarantee their right to education and safety.
