Calabria anti-violence centers demand structural resources

The Regional Coordination of Anti-Violence Centers in Calabria (CADIC) has issued an urgent appeal to regional and national institutions for structural interventions to combat gender-based violence. The organizations, which include various centers and shelters across provinces such as Reggio Calabria, Corigliano-Rossano, Pizzo, and Catanzare, are calling for a shift from emergency-based responses to permanent, well-funded support systems.

CADIC has outlined four specific urgent requirements for the Calabria Region: the timely and continuous disbursement of regional and national funds for anti-violence centers and shelters; the implementation of emotional education programs in schools; the formal strengthening of local anti-violence networks; and specialized, ongoing training for law enforcement, healthcare workers, judicial personnel, and municipal operators.

The coordination emphasized that femicides are not isolated incidents of passion but the culmination of a continuum of control and abuse. They stressed that current resources are insufficient for the daily demands of supporting women attempting to escape abusive environments.
