Calabria approves guidelines for coastal beach resource evaluation
The Calabria Regional Council has approved new guidelines for coastal municipalities to evaluate the scarcity of beach resources and the existence of certain cross-border interests. Proposed by Vice President and Councilor for Public Works Filippo Mancuso, these guidelines are designed to implement regional law 15/2026, which governs maritime state concessions for tourism and recreational purposes.
The measure aims to provide local authorities with a uniform, transparent, and scientifically grounded framework for making administrative decisions. Mancuso noted that the document represents an early attempt at methodological systematization that could serve as a national or even supranational reference for managing maritime concessions through objective and verifiable parameters.
