Calabria experiences resurgence of explosive ATM attacks
A series of explosive attacks targeting ATMs and postal service points has resurfaced in the Calabria region of Italy. Recent incidents in Feroleto della Chiesa and Anoia Superiore have reignited security concerns following a wave of similar crimes that began in late 2025.
The pattern of attacks has spanned multiple provinces, including Cosenza, Catanzaro, and Reggio Calabria. Previous targets included locations such as Lauropoli, Santa Maria del Cedro, and Rizziconi. These attacks have resulted in significant property damage, destroyed service points, and the suspension of essential services.
In response to the frequency of these incidents, Poste Italiane previously implemented security measures, such as emptying cash from ATMs overnight to reduce their attractiveness to criminals. Local mayors have condemned the violence, describing it as an attack on community security.
