Calabria healthcare faces extreme medical appointment delays

Rosamaria Scaramuzzino has raised alarms regarding the critical state of healthcare waiting lists in Calabria, Italy. She highlighted a specific instance where an appointment for an MRI with contrast at the Pugliese-Ciaccio hospital in Catanzaro was not available until April 2028.

Scaramuzzino noted that patients are increasingly forced to travel to other regions, such as Reggio Calabria, to find sooner availability, though even there, wait times remain significant. She emphasized that these delays represent more than just administrative numbers, affecting the mental well-being and financial stability of individuals who cannot afford private alternatives.
