Calabria healthcare corruption probe leads to 13 investigation notices

The Crotone Public Prosecutor's Office has issued 13 notices of conclusion of preliminary investigations concerning corruption within the healthcare procurement system in Calabria. The investigation focuses on activities occurring between Crotone and Lamezia Terme.

In response to the probe, the CGIL and FILCAMS unions have called on Calabria President Roberto Occhiuto to convene a formal meeting with labor organizations. Union leaders Gianfranco Trotta and Giuseppe Valentino emphasized that while the judiciary determines criminal responsibility, the regional government must address the political implications regarding transparency and service quality.

The unions expressed concern that corruption in procurement processes leads to negative impacts on workers, including reduced hours, lower wages, and increased job insecurity. They are demanding that the regional administration ensure public resources are used correctly and that procurement processes do not become tools for compromising labor rights and essential healthcare services.
