Calabria implements AI initiatives in education and tourism

In Calabria, Italy, new initiatives are addressing the integration of artificial intelligence across different sectors. The Cal-AI network, led by the ITIS ‘Michele Maria Milano’ school in Polistena, has been established to coordinate the use of AI in schools. This three-year project, running from 2025 to 2028, aims to standardize training, administrative processes, and safety protocols for students and teachers to overcome fragmented digital experiences.

In the tourism sector, travel operator Kel 12 is leveraging AI to enhance travel discovery. The company reported a 5% growth for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, reaching a turnover of over 42 million euros with more than 7,000 travelers. CEO Gianluca Rubino noted that while AI responds to known data, the future of tour operators lies in using technology to suggest itineraries and experiences that customers may not yet realize they desire.
