Calabria implements labor crisis unit amid rising employment

The Calabria regional government has approved the establishment of a regional intervention unit dedicated to labor policies for companies in crisis. This technical and coordinating body is designed to manage employment disputes, facilitate dialogue with trade unions, and connect workers with support and relocation tools to mitigate job losses.

In addition to the crisis unit, the regional executive approved digital growth guidelines for 2026–2029 to modernize administrative technological innovation. The administration also approved the 2025 financial statement for Arpacal, the regional environmental protection agency.

Recent data from the Fondazione Studi Consulenti del Lavoro indicates significant growth in the Calabrian labor market. Between 2022 and the first half of 2026, overall employment in the region rose by nearly 9%, exceeding the averages for both Southern Italy and the national total. This growth is largely driven by a 21.7% increase in self-employment and independent work. Other notable trends include a reduction in the NEET population (from 32% to 24.3%), an increase in citizens returning from abroad, and a 12% rise in female employment. Regional support for these trends includes the Fusese fund, which provides up to €148,000 for entrepreneurship.
