Calabria launches free Social Taxi service for elderly citizens
The Calabria region has introduced a new initiative called ‘Social Taxi’ to assist citizens over the age of 75 in accessing medical appointments. The service is designed to support vulnerable elderly individuals who may struggle to reach healthcare facilities located far from their homes.
Under the program, a chauffeur-driven vehicle (NCC) will pick up the user from their residence, accompany them to the medical facility, wait during the appointment, and provide transportation back home. The service is integrated with the Centro Unico di Prenotazione (CUP) booking system.
Funded by European Union funds, the initiative is currently operational in the province of Catanzaro. Regional President Roberto Occhiuto announced that the service is expected to be extended across the entire Calabria region in the coming weeks.
