Calabria launches joint hydrogeological risk programme with universities
The Regional Government of Calabria held a coordination meeting in Catanzaro to address hydrogeological risk and urban flooding. The session was chaired by Vice‑President and Regional Assessor for Public Works, Urban Planning, Soil Defence and Housing Policies, Filippo Mancuso, and involved the Regional Basin Authority, the Department of Engineering (Diceam) at the University of Mediterranean Reggio Calabria, and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
Participants outlined a collaborative research programme that will run pilot projects in the municipalities of Reggio Calabria and Catanzaro, develop advanced forecasting models, and design innovative sustainable urban drainage solutions. The initiative aims to integrate institutional and scientific expertise to improve flood risk assessment and implement preventative measures for the vulnerable communities of southern Calabria.
