Calabria political tensions rise over electoral law and party shifts

Political tensions are escalating in Calabria between the Lega party and Futuro Nazionale. Amedeo Mormile, the Lega commissioner for the province of Catanzaro, has launched a sharp critique against Domenico Furgiuele, a member of Futuro Nazionale. Mormile claims that Furgiuele attained his parliamentary position specifically due to the support and votes provided by the Lega and Matteo Salvini.

Mormile criticized Furgiuele’s political shift and his connection to the local territory, suggesting that the former Lega member is attempting to defend an unsustainable position. He emphasized that the time of local administrators should be spent serving citizens rather than engaging in political disputes.

In a separate but related critique, Domenico Tallini, representing the Futuro Nazionale circle in Catanzaro, attacked Ciccio Cannizzaro regarding proposed changes to electoral laws. Tallini accused Cannizzaro of attempting to create a new role for a “personal consultant deputy to the mayor,” a move Tallini described as an attempt to install specific candidates who act as political intermediaries between Rome and local administrations.
