Calabria promotes regional tourism and culinary heritage

Calabria is working to enhance its regional identity through tourism and culinary initiatives. The ‘Riviera dei Tramonti’ brand, led by the Aps Riviera dei Tramonti association and spearheaded by Sergio Tomaino, aims to promote the Tyrrhenian coast from Curinga to Nocera Terinese. Using Lamezia Terme as a logistical hub, the project seeks to move beyond traditional beach tourism by integrating mountain excursions, historical sites like the Benedictine Abbey, and local wine production to create a sustainable economic model.

Complementing these structural efforts, the region is highlighting its diverse gastronomic heritage. While widely known for ‘nduja, Tropea onions, and chili peppers, Calabria possesses a broader culinary landscape including traditional foods like Fileja pasta. Regional authorities have also implemented networking projects, such as designating ‘Cities of Oil,’ ‘Cities of Chestnut,’ and ‘Cities of Bread,’ to better promote local producers and increase the economic impact of food tourism.
