Calabria protesters accuse Mediaset of boycotting live broadcast

Protesters in Falerna, Calabria, have accused the national broadcaster Mediaset of boycotting a live broadcast of their demonstration. The peaceful sit-in, organized by the Movimento Territorio e Agricoltura, brought together approximately one thousand people, including farmers, truck drivers, families, and local mayors, to protest the rising cost of living, fuel prices, and agricultural costs.

Despite the presence of a film crew, the television program ‘Realpolitik’ on Rete 4 did not provide the expected live connection from the A2 Mediterranean motorway junction. Instead, the network dedicated its airtime to coverage of violent clashes occurring in Milan.

Matteo Talarico, president of the Movimento Territorio e Agricoltura, described the decision as ‘indecent,’ expressing disappointment that the media chose to prioritize violence elsewhere over the peaceful mobilization in Southern Italy. Organizers and participants expressed frustration on social media, alleging that national media outlets are ignoring the struggles of the region.
